July 5-26, 2018, 11:00 am – 4:30 pm daily – Viking Gallery – FREE
A reception for the artist will be held July 10, 4:30 – 6:00 pm. Join us for light refreshments, meet Kit Night, view her work and hear about her process. Kit is a fascinating artist who excels at sharing about her work.
Kit Night did the art school thing, got her BFA, is in collections across the country, and has won awards from Maryland to California including (of course!), the National Orange Show. Night’s work has received praise from art critic, essayist and Pulitzer Prize winner John Updike, jazz composer, pianist and creator of NPR’s “Piano Jazz”, Marian McPartland and best-selling author of “Art & Physics”, Leonard Shlain.
Kit’s impressionist still lifes and plein aire work is influenced by Jazz. Miles, Coltrane, Dizzy, Evans, Brubeck and, as Count Basie used to refer to him, “Oscar Pete.” She loves listening to the old guys tell their stories and talk about their struggles. Color inspires Kit. She gets endorphins from it, creating radiant light with color. And she loves to push the envelope of space by shoving flattened abstracted space up against “realistic,” deep space. It’s like riding the edge on a sailboard or skiing downhill fast. The thrill is enjoying the ride and not knowing if you’re going to crash.
